Mother, Inventor, Entrepreneur, Author
Merrimac Dillon’s path to fiction has taken several forms, each one adding to the voice she brings to her work.
After completing her undergraduate and graduate studies, her career took her to Dallas, New York, and abroad, working in senior marketing roles, building long-standing professional relationships across media and retail.
Through those years, writing remained a steady interest. New Orleans—the city where she grew up—continued to shape her imagination: its layered history, social nuance, and sense of place offered a natural backdrop for storytelling. She has often said that New Orleans feels like “the only city in America where you feel as though you have stamped your passport,” and its influence can be felt throughout her fiction.
Moss in the Oaks
Debut novel by Merrimac Dillon.
Sometimes the greatest risk isn’t losing everything—it’s discovering what’s worth fighting for.
Beneath the moss-draped oaks of New Orleans’ most powerful dynasty, legacy is everything, and the unique culture that holds them together is social currency. When Elizabeth DuBois is summoned home from the life she so carefully constructed, piece by fragile piece, she suspects a medical crisis. What she finds is far more dangerous. Her father, the formidable patriarch of the DuBois empire, is dying, and with his final breath he rewrites the fate of his family and their livelihood.
Drawn back into a world of wealth, control, and suffocating expectations, Elizabeth finds herself at the center of a family’s unraveling. Her mother, Isabelle, has spent years preserving the image of a strong, impermeable dynasty, convincing her daughters—and perhaps herself—that the DuBois family was untouchable. But after her husband’s death, the illusion begins to crack.
